DOS and classic Windows: a project map
The retro side of this site connects classic operating systems with maintainable source code, build tools and reproducible tests. The blog already covers Open 386MAX, the GeosOne Dual Installer and MS-DOS 7.1 installation media.
Source-code starting points
- Open386MAX: the DOS memory-manager repository.
- GeosOne Dual Installer and msdosinst: installer sources and a floppy-set builder.
- Volkov Commander, Calmira and OpenMaxView: file-management, desktop and multitasking work.
- OpenASPI, EUSBASPI and AHCIASPI: storage-related driver projects.
A useful compatibility report
List the real machine or emulator, CPU, memory, operating-system version, driver versions and the configuration files involved. Describe the expected result, the actual result and the smallest setup that reproduces the problem. Keep disk images and test data separate from your only working installation.
Discuss experiments in the DOS, Windows 3.x & Classic PCs forum. Follow each repository's README and license: a source repository or installer project is not a blanket permission to redistribute proprietary operating-system media.
